Dear PS/MS 146Q Families,
On behalf of the entire community of the Howard Beach School, it is with great pleasure that I welcome all of you to the 2017-2018 school year.
This year, we will be opening our doors to over 650 students. The custodial staff has been working hard for our opening by freshening up classrooms, painting and getting student materials where they need to be for a smooth opening. Teachers have been in to beautify their classrooms and make them warm and welcoming for the students.
Many teachers have been working hard to improve their pedagogy over the summer. We had several teachers attend training with Apple as well as STEM institutes. As a school, we are working hard to effectively incorporate the latest technology into classroom instruction. This year we will be opening our Library Media Center with Ms. Jennifer Romeo at the helm. We are proud to say that we will be among the first schools in D27 to be part of the NYC Computer Science for All initiative. The work done through this initiative will put PS/MS 146Q at the forefront of the new ISTE standards by placing extra emphasis on teaching Computer Science and Computational Thinking. I am very excited about the work ahead of us and look forward to the new experiences that we will be providing to our students.
If you have any concerns or are in need of help, please do not hesitate to contact our Parent Coordinator, Coleen Mainieri, for assistance. You can reach her via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at (718) 659-3140 Ext 1260.
On behalf of my amazing staff, I welcome you to the new school year and thank you in advance for your support.
