Dear 146 Families,
I wanted to officially welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year.
Over the summer we had several of our teachers participate in professional learning opportunities on both our new science curriculum and our new math curriculum. These teachers shared their new learning with their colleagues in order for all teachers to have access to the learning gained, which will benefit all of our students.
Our building interior was enhanced over the summer. The flooring on the second and third floor hallways as well as the flooring in the stairwells was replaced. The new tiling is vibrant and a stark difference from the dark brown that used to adorn our hallways. In addition, thanks to the funds raised by our parents, we were able to install two sensory paths for the younger members of the 146 family. The paths have been installed in the basement and on the first floor. A sensory path is a colorful, creative and playful way for kids to build sensory pathways, connections in the brain that are responsible for sight, touch, sound, etc., which enable kids to complete complex, multi-stage tasks. A sensory path is a great way for kids to develop motor skills like balance, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness, and is normally made with stickers that can be stuck to any surface. Thank you for making the pathways possible!!
For our middle school this year, we will be starting several new clubs for our students. The information and permission slips will be sent home next week.
We are off to a positive start with both students and parents sharing some good ideas to enhance our school community.
If you have any ideas we would love to hear them! On behalf of the administration and the entire 146 staff, we look forward to a wonderful new school year and a positive partnership with our families!
