Welcome Back!

Dear PS/MS 146Q Families,

As your Principal, I’m excited to begin the 2016-2017 school year. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our returning families as well as the many new families that are joining the 146 community this school year!

We have had a number of things happen over the summer.  The sidewalks around the entire perimeter of the building have been replaced, the first floor lobby, hall and the main office have been newly tiled and several classrooms have been freshly painted. We have upgraded our technology to include an additional 60 iPads, 30 MacBook Air laptops as well as 16 Promethean Boards which will replace outdated smartboards. Many of our staff members participated in professional development activities, which included: technology, social studies, math and social emotional development to support our students. These teachers will take what they have learned and be the facilitators for professional learning throughout the school year.

PS/MS 146Q has a new phone number (718)659-3140. We also have a newly designed website, www.PS146Q.org, which is viewed best when utilizing Google Chrome.   Just a reminder, we are now a “NUT FREE” school. Peanuts and nuts can cause a severe, potentially fatal, allergic reaction to our students that suffer from this allergy, so avoid sending in sandwiches and snacks with nuts.

PS/MS 146Q is a dress code school, so unless a student has an exemption approved by the Principal, all students are to wear their school uniform.

TOPS:               Long or short sleeve three-button polo shirts in navy, white or light blue

BOTTOMS:       Slacks, skirts, skorts or walking shorts (to the knee) in navy or khaki

Meet the Teacher Night has been scheduled for September 22, 2016 beginning at 4:30pm. This will be an opportunity for teachers to share the curriculum as well as the expectations for the new school year. There will be a detailed schedule which will be sent home prior to the event.

As the year progresses, I will continue to listen, observe and meet with people to identify what works well and hear suggestions for improvement.  I’m sure that the staff, the School Leadership Team and the Parents’ Association will assist me in their roles. Together we can forge ahead and build upon the successes that already exist here!

On behalf of my amazing staff, I would like to wish all of you a fantastic school year.

Sincerely,

Mary Keegan, Principal
